The peculiar features of the size and distribution of Hinduism are summarized below:
- The world population of Hindus are about 1 Billion (100 crores)
- It represents 15% of the global population
- More than 99% of Hindus are in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Less than 1% Hindus reside outside Asia-Pacific region.

- In the region of North America, Europe, Middle East-North Africa, Latin America-Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa, Hindus make up less than 1% of the general population.
- 94% of Hindus live in India.
- The Hindu population of India is nearly 1 Billion (973,750,000 to be precise and we Indians read it as Ninety Seven Crores Thirty Seven Lakhs and Fifty Thousand).
- The biggest population of Hindus outside India are in Nepal (2% of all Hindus) and Bangladesh (1%).
- The combined population of Hindus in Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan & Sri Lanka will come about 47,900,000 (Indians will read it 4 Crores and 79 Lakhs).
- Southern Asia (consisting of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan (Myanmar) , India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan & Sri Lanka) is accommodating about 99% of the world's Hindu population.
- Overall, an estimated 60% of South Asia's total population is Hindus.
- In three countries, Hindus form a majority: Nepal (81%), India (80%) and Mauritius (56%).
- The countries with largest percentage of Hindus are Nepal (81%). (India: 80%).
- 97% of all Hindus live in three countries: India, Nepal and Mauritius.
